Overall, while the glitch is known among the Dark Souls community as Item Dupe glitch, it won’t create copies of items. All the Item Dupe glitch could do is to replicate the effect of items by exploiting features of the game. That being said, if players manage to master the glitch, it’s possible to increase the number of items to 999 in a blink of an eye. Needless to say, speedrunners who need to level up stats quickly tend to use the Item Dupe glitch to farm souls.
Currently, two types of Item Dupe glitch exists:
Type 1: For Items With Confirmation Box
Generally speaking, Type 1 glitch permits players to infinitely use items with the confirmation box such as Homeward Bones, Boss Souls and so on. Keep in mind that the Item Dupe glitch won’t work on Red Eye Orb as it won’t be consumed upon use.
To activate Type 1 glitch, highlight the item that you want to dupe in your hotbar in advance. Next, execute an action then queue up the use of the item as the animation is about to complete. If you open the Menu before the confirmation box emerges and use an inventory item, the confirmation box of the hotbar item should still appear. Nonetheless, if you confirm the use, the game would consume the inventory item but provide the effect of the hotbar one.
Note: If you play a female character, it’s kind of hard to make use of Type 1 glitch from time to time. To optimize the odds of success, you have two choices:
- Equip a two-handed weapon/shield

To activate Type 2 glitch with the firebombs, you need to use/drop the first four firebombs. Afterward, use the fifth firebomb but on the very last frames of the item-use animation, queue up another to throw out extra firebombs.
Here is a list of duping windows for items that you may want to use Type 2 glitch with:
- Souls: 1 Frame (33ms)
- Twin Humanities:1 Frame (33ms)
- Black Firebomb: 2 Frames (66ms)
Execution

On PC
- Step 1: Collect 3K souls, visit a merchant and buy 999 Wooden Arrow
- Step 2: Open Menu then drop the stack of the item that you want to dupe but keep one around
- Step 3: Go to the Ammunition tab, select Wooden Arrow and drop everything
- Step 4: Choose System, highlight Quit Game and hover the mouse over the Inventory symbol
- Step 5: Left-click the mouse and hit the X button on your controller soon after
- Step 6: With two menus overlapping each other on the screen, scroll down the inventory with your mouse then select the item to dupe
- Step 7: Select Use, set the quantity as 999 then pick OK
- Step 8: Repeat the process to your heart’s content
On Consoles
- Step 1: Collect 3K souls, visit a merchant and buy 999 Wooden Arrow
- Step 2: Open Menu then drop the stack of the item that you want to dupe but keep one around
- Step 3: Change the order of items in Inventory so the item to dupe stays below Estus
- Step 4: Go to the Ammunition tab, select Wooden Arrow, set to drop everything but hit cancel at the end
- Step 5: Choose System and highlight Brightness
- Step 6: Tap the select button and hit the shortcut for brightness (For example, the brightness shortcut on Playstation is X and R1 so you need to tap X then quickly press R1)
- Step 7: Close one menu, highlight Quit Game, bring the item that you want to dupe to 999 and tap OK
- Step 8: Repeat the process to your heart’s content
Could I Max Out My Character Using The Item Dupe Glitch?
All in all, in Dark Souls as well as its remaster, souls play a key role in leveling up stats of the player character. Thus, if you use the Item Dupe glitch to farm souls, you would be able to max out your character assuming that you have the time.
