Pokémon GO: How To Beat Giovanni (July Lineup & Counters)
0 0
The Team GO Rocket Boss Giovanni returns in July 2024 and is by far the hardest in-game opponent in Pokémon GO. Giovanni has a stacked lineup of extremely powerful Pokémon, with each opponent having very high CP making it difficult to defeat them, regardless of what Pokémon you use. However, due to this month's line-up, the fight is significantly easier to prepare for, although you still need to plan if you want any hope of defeating Giovanni in Pokémon GO.
In addition to Giovanni's Pokémon being higher rated, they are also Shadow versions, making them even stronger than their regular versions. You will need to beat Sierra and fellow leaders Arlo and Cliff if you want to take on Team GO Boss Giovanni in July 2024. While the three Team GO Rocket leaders can use any of seven Pokémon, Giovanni only has five at his disposal, making it much easier to plan for the different options available.

How To Find Giovanni In Pokémon GO (July 2024)
Tracking Down The Go Rocket Boss
The first obstacle you face with Giovanni is being able to find him. To be able to fight him, you will need to overcome several obstacles which can be time-consuming. Before being able to challenge him, you first need to fight and defeat six Team Rocket Grunts. While these can generally be defeated quickly, they can include fighting against the dangerous Ke Ke Ke Ke and their Ghost Pokémon.
Each time you beat a Grunt you will receive a Mysterious Component and once you have six of them it will create a Rocket Radar. This can be used to track down one of the three Team GO Rocket Leaders, who provide a much tougher challenge.
Defeating all three Team Rocket Leaders Arlo, Sierra and Cliff will give you the opportunity to battle Giovanni.
Each of these will test you but offer much greater rewards than the Grunts. Once you have defeated one, you will need to go back to defeating six more Grunts on two more occasions until you have defeated all three of the Leaders.
You will then need to spin PokéStops and find Rocket Balloons, which can be filled with decoys until you finally find Giovanni and get the chance to take him down. You can also skip the above steps by completing the Team GO Rocket Special Research Tasks if you have any available. Completing these will net you the Super Rocket Radar which will take you straight to the final step of finding Giovanni in PokéStops and Rocket Balloons.

A Familiar Line-up For Trainers
Close
All of the Team GO Rocket Pokémon lineups can change from month to month, including Giovanni's. However, for July 2024 there are no changes from recent months to his line-up, so if you fought Giovanni in June 2024 there will be no surprises. He will select from five options each time you face him, but Giovanni always starts and finishes with the same Pokémon. For his second selection, he will pick from one of three Pokémon at random, which will change with each battle.
Giovanni will always start with his pet from the TV Show, Normal-type Persian.
The second wave will see Giovanni pick one out of Poison- and Ground-type Nidoking, Dragon- and Ground-type Garchomp, or Ground- and Rock-type Rhyperior. If you make it to his final Pokémon, you will always face Pokémon GO's Shadow Legendary Groudon.

Best Counters For Giovanni In Pokémon GO (July 2024)
Best Pokémon Lineup Against Giovanni
While all of Giovanni's Pokémon have high CP and are difficult individually, his current line-up has four Pokémon with at least a partial Ground-type, making this a much easier fight than in previous months. Giovanni will always start with Normal-type Persian, which is weak against Fighting attacks, so you should start with a strong Fighting-type such as Machamp or Lucario that will make quick work of the Generation One Pokémon.
While Water-types are a great option against Giovanni, the best type to use is Ice-type Pokémon, as four of his options are weak to it.
The strongest Ice-type in Pokémon GO is the powerhouse Mamoswine, having the attacking power to potentially take down whatever combination the Team GO Boss uses for his second wave, and then Groudon. As a backup, you can also select another Ice-type to use for his final Pokémon in case Mamoswine isn't enough, with Glaceon being a great choice.
Alternatively, if you have high CP strong Water-types such as Gyarados, Blastoise, or Kyogre, they are a great option. They can easily take down Nidoking, Rhyperior, or Groudon, whilst often being more powerful than their Ice-type teammates. However, they will struggle against Garchomp, so if you do select Water-type Pokémon and it is used by Giovanni, make sure to switch to an Ice-type.
Rewards For Defeating Giovanni In Pokémon GO
An Opportunity To Catch A Legendary Pokémon
Once you have found and defeated Giovanni, you will receive a number of rewards for the achievement. The biggest reason for tracking him down is the chance to catch a Legendary Shadow Pokémon. These Pokémon are some of the strongest in Pokémon GO and are extremely useful when taking on high-level raids. For July 2024, once you have beaten Giovanni, you will immediately get the chance to capture a Groudon.
On top of this, you will also receive 5,000 stardust, which can be used to increase the CP level and stats of your Pokémon, which is useful for PvP battles and raids. Finally, you will also get three of the following items at random, which can be added to your storage. They are revives, max revives, hyper potions, max potions, or the rare Unova Stone which can be used for evolving certain Pokémon.
Despite taking a lot of effort to track down, finding and beating Giovanni is worth your while thanks to the rewards on offer in July 2024 in Pokémon GO including the opportunity to catch a strong Legendary Pokémon.
