RealD 3D and Imax Digital 3D both utilize passive 3D technology which makes use of relatively lightweight eyewear. These passive 3D glasses use polarizing filters to allow each eye to see a slightly different image. HDTVs like LG's latest Cinema 3D TVs work in a similar fashion.

For example, IMAX 3D movies have a higher resolution and image quality, and the IMAX screens are much larger than standard movie screens. As a result, IMAX 3D movies offer a truly unique and immersive experience that is not possible with traditional 3D movies.

Theaters generally either use special polarised light or project a pair of images that create a simulated sense of depth. To actually get the 3D effect, though, you have to wear glasses, which have proven too inconvenient to create much of a market for 3D TVs.

All other 3D movies, you'll need to bring your own RealD 3D glasses. If you do not have one, you can purchase that at the box office for $2.50 and it comes with a glasses pouch.
